Rozwikłanie kwestii różnic w stosowaniu technologii i mediów pomiędzy narodami i regionami zawsze wydawało mi się dużym kłopotem, szczególnie jeśli chodzi nie o same przykłady, lecz teorię, która pozwoli je zrozumieć. Kwestia wydaje się istotna, skoro tyle się mówi o jednym Internecie, globalnej sieci – a jednocześnie są powody by myśleć, że na jednej technologicznej gałęzi rośnie wiele internetów rozumianych jako sfery kulturowe, światy społeczne.
