Teza Friedmana jest następująca: świat, który wydaje się zfragmentyzowany, w gruncie rzeczy coraz bardziej się integruje. Dzięki technologiom. Symbolem dzisiejszej integracji jest Google, a nadchodzącej fali dalszego zacieśniania więzi bezprzewodowy Internet (WiFi), szczególnie w wersji szerokopasmowej.
Sedno sprawy mieści się w tym akapicie:
"Innymi słowy, gdy WiFi zostanie zainstalowane, jedno małe połączenie z Internetem umożliwi mi ściąganie czegokolwiek gdziekolwiek oraz rozprowadzanie jakichkolwiek informacji z dowolnego miejsca. Są to dobre wieści, tak dla naukowców jak terrorystów, osób o pro-amerykańskim jak i anty-amerykańskim nastawieniu."

Wszystko jasne. W Polsce pojawiła się nowa reklama usługi dostępowej OnetKonekt, która cała właściwie składa się z ujęc ludzi skaczących na spadochronach lub surfujących w powietrzu. Zwykłe surfowanie, na falach, nie starcza już jako metafora lekkości i zwiewności, z jaką przebiega - podobno - połączenie z Internetem. Dodatkowo, latając w niebiosach jesteśmy bliżej Boga i niebieskich bytów takich jak Google i WiFi.
Ja byłbym bardziej ostrożny w opisywaniu Google'a. Obserwując zeitgeist Google'a - miesięczny ranking najczęściej wyszukiwanych zwrotów - można by się pokusić o stwierdzenie, że Google to nic więcej jak wielka wyszukiwarka połączeń lotniczych.
