BizDev donosi, że Nielsen/NetRatings szacuje liczbę osób z dostępem do internetu na 585 milionów osób w pierwszym kwartale 2003. Nua szacowała liczbę internautów na 605 milionów już we wrześniu 2002, ale to nieistotne - interesuje nas skala, gdyż w obu wypadkach niesamowita wydaje się wiadomość opublikowana przez New Scientist, że Sharman Networks, twórcy programu P2P Kazaa, ogłosili, że ponad 230 milionów egzemplarzy zostało już ściągnięte z Internetu. Sharman Networks opiera się na wynikach "wiodącego portalu udostępniającego software do ściągania" - z teog jednego miejsca klient Kazaa został ściągnięty 229 milionów razy. Nawet biorąc pod uwagę przypadki, w których programu nie zainstalowano, wielokrotne instalacje przez jednego użytkownika, itp., liczba jest ogromna. Zazwyczaj ponad 4 miliony użytkowników jest podłączonych naraz do Kazaa. Mercury News cytują P.J. McNealy z grupy badawczej GartnerG2, który nazwał ten wynik przerażającym!
Oczywiście dane pochodzące od producenta nie są do końca pewne, ale download.com przyznaje, że 4 miliony kopii Kazaa są ściągane tygodniowo. Być może jest mniej Kazaa na świecie, niż twierdzi Sharman Networks, ale i tak bardzo dużo ludzi na pewno ściąga z sieci pliki.
Niewiele gorszy od Kazaa jest ICQ, ściągnięty także ponad 220 milionów razy. Bardzo dużo ludzi także komunikuje się ze sobą.

Alek, skad masz taka informacje, ze jeden internauta na trzech sciaga i gada?
Bo na podstawie tego, ze kazaa/icq byly sciagniete tyle razy, ile wynosi 1/3 liczby uzytkownikow internetu, na pewno nie mozna tego powiedziec.
Jesli ktos korzysta z jakiegos programu od pewnego czasu (a icq/kazaa sa juz od dawna), to normalne jest kilkukrotne pobieranie programu przez jedna osobe, bo co jakis czas wychodza jego nowe wersje..

Wiem, założenie że komputer lub klient = Internauta jest podstawowym błędem w badaniach internetu. I rzeczywiście trochę zagalopowałem się z tym tytułem. Ale jeśli rzeczywiście 4 miliony ściągają Kazęę tygodniowo (to daje 200 milionów + rocznie), a Windows 95, wielki blockbuster Microsoftu, w pierwszym roku posiadało 60 milionów (podobno), to coś jest na rzeczy. Zresztą łatwo możnaby tę liczbę 230 milionów zweryfikować, patrząc ile w tym czasie pojawiło się nowych wersji (i zgadując, lub mając dane, jak duża część użytkowników je instaluje).

A jako ciekawostka powiem, że założyłam sobie właśnie konto na ICQ - mam numer powyżej 280 milionów. To też robi wrażenie, nawet jeśli tylko 1/3 numerow jest aktywna...

1/3 aktywnych kont ICQ to może się wydawać mało, ale myślę, że faktycznie może być jeszcze mniej(!)... sądząc po sobie i wielu znajomych konta na ICQ poszły w zapomnienie z chwilą upowszechnienia się GG i tlenu.. w tej chwili miałbym pewien problem z odtworzeniem swego numeru (a przecież znałem go na pamięć)..
podobnie jest z Kazaa - w mojej okolicy praktycznie zapomniane w momencie upowszechnienia się eDonkey czy eMule..

tak więc nie można na pewno powiedzieć, że ilość pobranych kopii programu czy nawet ilość kiedykolwiek zainstalowanych czy zarejestrowanych świadczy o czymkolwiek -- może 80% z tych programów było uruchomione tylko raz nim pojawiło się coś ciekawszego?

PS. nie ukrywam, że znajduję pewną przyjemność w tym jak łatwo znaleźć przykłady z życia podważające jakikolwiek sens statystycznego badania internetu.. nie mniej jednak doceniam próby - walka z wiatrakami, piękna rzecz :-)
